Her Royal Highness Princess Anne paid a visit to the Mission to Seafarers new drop-in centre in Singapore’s Jurong Port last week.
The Princess Royal, an ardent supporter and patron of the Mission, ,et with staff, supporters and young cadets from Singapore’s maritime training institutions.
To celebrate the visit, the Mission, together with Riding for the Disabled, another Singapore-based charity for which Princess Anne shows a keen interest, invited supporters to join a cruise around Singapore’s harbour on the tall ship Royal Albatross.
The event proved extremely popular with numerous members of the island state’s shipping community, who enjoyed a pleasant voyage featuring British culinary favourites such as fish and chips and cucumber sandwiches – and, of course, there was a plenty of champagne to be had as well.
The Princess Royal met with the happy passengers before the vessel embarked on its voyage and expressed genuine dismay that a hectic schedule precluded her from sailing on the ship as well.
During the cruise, the Mission announced the second Mission Row Around Singapore Island (Mission RASI) fund-raising event would be held next year and revealed the trophy – sponsored by Thomas Miller – that the winning rowing team would be able to claim at the end of the race.
